After spending 3 years in Japan studying mixed martial arts and Tai Chi, Julie returned to Canada in 2003 with a passion for a mind-body fitness routine and a desire to find a program that would have an enduring impact on her health, happiness and physical well-being. An avid runner, educator and fitness enthusiast, Julie discovered Pilates and immediately fell in love with it. She found that practicing Pilates increased her flexibility, posture, body awareness and core strength. As Julie’s passion for Pilates grew, so did her dedication to the fitness program. Michelle discovered Nia 3 years ago at Body Poetry, shortly after moving to Yorkton. A lifelong fitness enthusiast, avid runner and outdoor lover, she found she could no longer enjoy these activities due to health and personal issues. Moving to Yorkton was a fresh start and the beginning of a life transformation. At her first Nia class, she realized Nia was innovative, creative and enjoyable. Michelle found the fusion of dance, martial arts and healing arts refreshing. There was no intimidation or feelings of awkwardness. Nia is about celebrating the joy and pleasure of movement at your individual health and fitness level. Since that first class, Michelle has been able to build upon her Nia experience and her improve her health, adding yoga and meditation to her practise. When the opportunity arose to become a Nia instructor, she eagerly completed her white belt teacher training in Victora. Michelle is excited to share the gifts, priciples and joy of Nia during class and throughout our daily life. Her goal is to enhance the Nia experience and to see the Nia community grow and thrive in Yorkton.
